¡Salud! Jacob Romero, profesor de español en IHRM, nos habla sobre la cerveza Noche Buena:

La única cerveza de Navidad en México se llama Noche Buena, una cerveza obscura, con un sabor fuerte, Tiene un emblema de la flor festiva de poinsettia (o Noche Buena).

Si eres un verdadero conocedor de cerveza debes esperar el lanzamiento cada año entre los meses de octubre y diciembre, cuando sus ricas cualidades proporcionan el complemento perfecto al espíritu del día de fiesta.

Esta cerveza inspira a los que disfrutan de ella para dar lo mejor durante los días festivos…

• Thursday 1st New Year's Day is a public holiday in Mexico and the school will be closed.

La fiesta de fin de año de International House Riviera Maya…

Mexicanos, al grito de guerra el acero aprestad y el bridón, y retiemble en sus centros la tierra al sonoro rugir del cañón.

Así es como empieza el coro del Himno Nacional Mexicano que fue interpretado, el viernes pasado; cantado en la fiesta de fin de año de IHRM, por la directora general Marta Conesa, originaria de España, quien se siente ya mexicana.

La fiesta fue un agasajo. Hubo muchos regalos, chistes, risas, comida y ponche.

A todos los empleados de IHRM se les llenó el alma de buena vibra para dar lo mejor de sí en el próximo año.

Feliz Navidad…

Jazmín (bailarina profesional de Ciudad de México) nos cuenta cómo celebra la Navidad…

La Navidad en mi país es una fecha muy importante para todos, ya que como la mayoría de la población somos católicos, es una fiesta básicamente cristiana. En mi familia ponemos el arbolito de navidad junto con el nacimiento los primeros días de diciembre.

El 24 de diciembre por la noche comemos romeritos, pavo relleno, tamales y tomamos ponche, rompemos piñatas y bailamos salsa y cumbia.

Me gusta mucho porque puedo reunirme con mis primos, tíos, sobrinos y amigos.

Y tú ¿cómo celebras la Navidad?

We'll be closed Christmas Day itself but, apart from that, we have our usual, full program of social activities…

• Monday Walking tour around Playa Get to know all the important public places in Playa as well as our favorite places for lunch or dinner and see the Christmas tree and nativity scene in the City Hall.
• Tuesday IH Pastorela If you don't know the difference between your 'pastorelas' and your 'posadas', we'll teach you. Come along, it's fun! We will rehearse for our typical play for the season, La pastorela de IHRM…
• Wednesday Ensalada navideña Our Mexican cookery classes are very popular and this lunchtime we'll be showing you how to make a typical Christmas dish.
• Thursday Christmas Day is a public holiday in Mexico and the school will be closed today.
• Friday Boxing Day we don't tend to do anything especial (apart from play with our new toys, eat the left-overs and watch scary movies, that is!). Come and enjoy this afternoon with us.

Dancing salsa is fun — and is a great way to meet new people as you travel Mexico. At IH Riviera Maya the students and teachers dance together practicing and learning new steps.

Salsa dancing with friends is such fun. Thanks to Raúl, we all had a chance to dance both parts — the hombre and the mujer) and learn the basic steps. Watch out Bodeguita !!! Here we come!

As Christmas draws near, we have several special events on our social program in Playa del Carmen. This week…

• Monday Walking tour around Playa Get to know all the important public places in Playa as well as our "local" favorite places for lunch or dinner.
• Tuesday Posada Come and enjoy the first Mexican Posada in the school garden and help make the Nativity scene.
• Wednesday Making Piñatas No Christmas would be Christmas to any Mexican kid without a 'piñata'. Our workshop this afternoon will have you make your own. And participate in the piñatas contest. Hands on!!
• Thursday Ponche and Romeritos. Our Mexican cookery classes are very popular and this lunchtime we'll be showing you how to make a typical Christmas dish.
• Friday Piñatas contest Is your piñata ready? Come and compete: there are three  great prizes for the best 3.

On December 12 we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe (also called the Virgin of Guadalupe), Mexico's most popular religious and cultural image.

On the 12th, people in Mexico celebrate the apparition of the Our Lady of Guadalupe to Juan Diego, with millions of pilgrims walking for several days from different places in Mexico to the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City.

Me llamo Sonja. Tengo 21 años. Soy italiana, pero vivo en Suiza. Me gusta mucho estudiar español porque es el idioma del amor.

Me encanta estudiar en IHRM porque los profesores son muy simpáticos. Rosi prepara comida muy rica y Oscar es muy amable. Además tengo la oportunidad de conocer otros estudiantes de todo el mundo.

Lo que más me gusta de Playa del Carmen es: la playa, la gente, la comida — por ejemplo los tacos, las fajitas, el guacamole, los nachos…
