Spanish in Mexico

Todos conocemos el pan, lo hemos comido de diferentes formas. Pero si te digo que en  México tenemos un pan especial para los muertos, ¿te sorprendería?

Este es el pan de muerto, elaborado a base de harina de trigo, mantequilla, azúcar leche y huevos.

El pan de Muerto está hecho especialmente para los altares que se montan el 1° y 2 de noviembre, días en que se celebran las muertes de los seres más queridos.

Este peculiar pan en forma de huesos, simula el esqueleto de la famosa Catrina que es una calavera que representa a la muerte de una forma graciosa y divertida.

This week's post features Playa's best Italian restaurant, Di Vino.

It's located on the corner of 5th Avenue and 12th Street (which is really close to our school), and it's open every day for breakfast at 7 am, lunch starts at noon, and dinner is served from 5 pm until midnight. They also offer a wide range of wines to choose from at their bar, which stays open until 2 am.

The restaurant's ambiance is absolutely amazing, with its soft warm lighting, elegant tables, and chic seating. The best part is the scrumptious food, which is always a beautiful spectacle in itself!

This place gets nothing less than rave reviews, so while you're here studying with us at IH, make sure to check it out. You won't regret it!

Si te digo la palabra "guacamaya", ¿qué viene a tu mente? ¿Algo como un ave?  Acertaste. Las guacamayas son aves que viven en las selvas tropicales y que son muy famosas por sus hermosos colores como rojo, verde, amarillo y azul. Estos asombrosos animales habitan en algunas partes de las selvas mexicanas y también viven en zoológicos como el de Xcaret.

Así como las guacamayas, México cuenta con una gran variedad de flora y fauna que te invitamos a que vengas a conocer.

Imagínate ver un jaguar o un tucán en su habitad natural, son animales fascinantes, ¿no crees?

Are you feeling Kool? This week's feature is Kool Beachclub. As you can see it's superbly luxurious and unarguably gorgeous! It's located just a 5-minute walk away from the school and offers a range of very affordable services and amenities.

It has an enormous private swimming pool with VIP area, an open palapa bar that serves everything from your favorite beer to the fanciest cocktail; there are private diamond beds for two ($10 per day), and pillowed individual lounge chairs available for rent ($2 per day).

It also has a fantastic gourmet restaurant, which has live music almost every evening. What more could you want?!

This week's post features one of Playa's local Mexican souvenir and convenience stores, Le Best, which is on 5th Avenue between 6th and 4th Streets.

It's huge! It has just about everything a visitor in Playa could ask for — anything from handmade key chains and jewellery to sombreros and piñatas.

They also have a wide range of authentic local foods and spices if you think you're going to miss genuine Mexican food (you are!) and — of course – you've got a huge range of tequilas.

Everything is very affordably priced. The only problem you might have is finding enough room in your suitcase to take it all back with you!

Una de las leyendas más bonitas que se puede escuchar en la zona de la Riviera Maya es la del Conejo en la luna. Es una antigua historia contada por los Mayas que habla sobre porqué aparece la figura de un conejo en la luna.

Dice la leyenda que un día el dios Quetzalcóatl decidió adquirir la forma humana y fue a caminar por el mundo. En uno de sus viajes un día ya caída la noche al sentirse cansado, se sentó en la orilla del camino y al poco tiempo vio a un conejito que comía…

Quetzalcóatl le pregunto al conejo.
-¿Qué estas comiendo?
-Estoy comiendo zacate, ¿quieres comer un poco? dijo el conejo
-No gracias, yo no como zacate.
-¿Qué vas hacer entonces?
-Es posible que muera de hambre y de sed, señalo Quetzalcóatl.
El conejo se acercó a Quetzalcóatl y le dijo:
-Pues yo solo soy un insignificante conejo, pero si tienes mucha hambre puedes comerme.
En ese momento el dios se agacho para acariciar al conejo y le dijo:
-Tú no serás más que un conejo, pero te prometo que todo el mundo se ha de acordar de ti para siempre.
Quetzalcóatl tomó al conejo y lo levantó tan alto que dejó su imagen en la luna, después lo regresó a la tierra y le dijo:
-Ahora todo el mundo podrá ver tu imagen de luz para siempre.

And just think, Coco Maya is just one of the many beach clubs that we have here in Playa, and it's only about a four minute walk from IH. Here, you can study and vacation!

En International House Riviera Maya no sólo somos una escuela de idiomas donde damos clases de español e inglés, también cooperamos con la maravillosa vista y los paisajes de la ciudad.

En esta semana nos dimos cuenta de que uno de los días estaba muy nublado, no inspiraba a hacer muchas cosas y se veía el cielo un poco triste y muy gris, así que decidimos hacer algo para poder cambiar este horrible panorama. Uno de los profesores corrió por plumones de colores y se puso a dibujar este hermoso arcoíris en el cielo.

Esperamos que verlo te produzca la misma alegría que a nosotros mostrártelo…
